ALN In The Community

We are always looking for ways to work with and support other great organisations in community settings encouraging people to enjoy being creative and expressing themselves. Whether that be during fun days offering everyone in the family an opportunity to get involved, add their ideas and be part of the story using props, costumes and lots of imagination like our work with Contact a Family.
Or bringing people together who have a shared interest in performing arts like the Hijinx students who we worked with to develop their performance skills, confidence building and team work, creating a company of student actors.

National Trust Bodnant Garden Community Banner Making

We want peoples’ voices to be heard; their stories told. Connecting our celebration performance at Bodnant to the community was vitally important. We wanted to celebrate womens protest and the important work done not just 100 years ago but now with issues which concern us today.
Our protest performance was not just a historical piece looking back but also reflecting forwards, it was important to us that modern womens’ issues would be highlighted at the event. By hosting banner making sessions in Eglwsbach and at Bodnant Garden we were able to connect, share stories and highlight important causes which affect people today.

Community Superhero’s

Celebrating what’s positive about your community and the people who make it happen really brings everyone together. Our Community Superhero’s projects have encouraged schools to connect more with parents, celebrate the ‘everyday superhero’s’ in their lives and present work which offers an opportunity for everyone to come along and have fun together.
The federated schools Ysgol Mochdre and Ysgol Cystennin joined together to celebrate their Superheros creating with us a school fair on a beautiful warm Summers day. Leading up to the event children had been busy at our after-school club perfecting a Hero’s performance and working with local artist Alana Tyson to design their own capes and masks which they created with family members.

This group continues to flourish, welcoming people from all backgrounds and abilities to make new friends and find their voice through drama. Our commitment to the group continues and we are always looking for new ways for our members to make space.

National Trust Riverlands Project

How do you connect with people to make a problem relevant and engaging? That was the question we answered with our NT Riverlands project. Raising awareness that we can affect the flooding problem in the River Conwy and the positive steps being taken saw us unearth an old Welsh myth of the Afanc; a terrible sea creature who makes the River Conwy flood when its angry.
How about we create opportunities for people to hear more about the Afanc through Community days where they can create a giant river monster, star in a rap video and talk to the National Trust about flooding and what measures are being taken. Team that with a bilingual school’s workshop and everyone starts to hear about the Afanc.
