National Trust Bodnant Garden – Unbind The Wing

Unbind the Wing a celebration where performance and community collide to create something special.
Marking 100 years since some women got the right to vote and highlighting the valuable work of Laura McLaren, Lady Aberconwy who resided at Bodnant in 1918. By creating an immersive theatrical performance where the audience became protesters on a march we were able to lead them around the beautiful gardens, travel back in time through decades of womens protest until we found ourselves back in 1918.
Supporting our professional actor’s we drew together a community cast who breathed life in to the scenes and stood amongst the audience to create a truly unique atmosphere. A treat for the senses as our cavalcade travelled the garden, we smelt welsh cakes cooking on the open fire at the 1980’s CND protest and watched the flares go up as the riot police moved us on towards a climax of singing from Welsh National Opera and speech making by modern activists (chosen by Amnesty for their commitment and courage to modern protest issues).
